Lee Clow
March 12, 2009If you don’t know who Lee Chow is you should. He is the brains behind Apple’s 1984 commercial. Well this evening he was invited to speak to a lucky group of students at the University of Colorado and it was a moving experience to say the least.
Here are some of the more memorable things he had to say:
“The best advertising tells stories”
“If you never fuck up, your not taking enough risks”
“Everything is the brand from packaging to interactions with employees to everything”
“Brands are media”
“Think of a brand as a person with personality a sense of humor, someone you would want to grab a beer with”
Here are some of my favorite ads that Clow was involved with:

February 2, 2009one cool site: wordpress blogging tips
This is my first review with a spread in the score. The reason is that for people who don’t have a wordpress blog this website is only a 7. However, for people with a wordpress blog this site is a 9. Got it? Good.
This website gives some really great advanced information about blogging. For instance one article I was reading this morning, Twenty income streams for a blogger which had some really great new information I had not seen before. They also set up the site in a very easy to use way, so you can search the archives, see what comments are being said and see the days main stories.
If you use a reader, this site’s definely worth adding.
Free Press

Love them or hate them, PETA no doubt knows PR. They submitted this video to NBC as a superbowl spot only to be rejected. Of course that was the point. This “soft core porn” commercial was simply going to be used as PR since they knew it was going to be banned and they would NEVER pay $3,000,000 for a thirty second spot. And their ploy worked. This ad is being spread around the internet like wild fire. Tons of blogs are picking it up, it is trending on Twitter and no doubt this evening the story will be on the nightly news.
Well done PETA…I guess
Alltop – The site for blogs
January 26, 2009I recently did a post for Alltop’s social media page however I realized there is much more to Alltop that you should know about then just this section. Go to Alltop and you will find blogs in pretty much every category imaginable. It also shows you the last five feeds of these blogs so you can see what stories are floating around today.
The person behind the site is Guy Kawasaki who is dedicated to teaching others about online marketing and has a huge following. Check him out on twitter/guykawasaki he has over 53,000 followers! He got the idea for Alltop from popurl which aggregates blogs, video, audio in a similar way.
I use Alltop to look for stories that might be interesting to my blog followers and post links to them. This is a great way of getting new followers and building a brand around yourself. Check it out, I’m sure you’ll fall in love.

January 23, 2009Building Communities Around Brands
January 23, 2009Richard Rosenblatt – co-founder of iMall which he sold for $565 million to Exite, former CEO of Intermix Media which created MySpace, amongst other notable online endeavors (all this as a precursor to why his opinions matter), offered this interesting prediction for 2009 about how people will rally around brands in online communities:
Taken from Demand Media Official Blog:
“People will build communities around brands – 2009 is the year for this to emerge as a new and viable advertising model. We all identify ourselves with where we shop – for food, shoes, deals, etc. – and I think that each of us will be given a real opportunity to find a like-minded community within these online experiences – not just for promotions. If you are a gardener or gardening enthusiast, you can join a community focused on gardening at Scotts.com; or, into healthy eating, join the community emerging at Whole Foods. What about brands like Restoration Hardware? Gap?”
